CHAPTER 4 Five Thousand Believe

1 [³speaking ¹And ²of their] to the people, [³stood by ⁴them ¹the ²priests], and the commandant of the temple, and the Sadducees, 2 being worked up because of their teaching the people, and announcing in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. 3 And they put upon them the hands, and put them in keep until the morrow; for it was evening already. 4 But many of the ones hearing the word believed; and [⁵was ¹the ²number ³of the ⁴men] about [²thousand ¹five].

5 And it came to pass on the morrow, [³gathered together ¹their ²rulers], and elders, and scribes in Jerusalem, 6 and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the chief priest. 7 And having stood them in the midst, they inquired, By what power, or in whose name do you this? 8 Then Peter, filled [²spirit ¹of holy], said to them, Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel. 9 If we today are questioned about a good work [²man ¹of the infirm], by how this one was delivered; 10 let it be made known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this one this man stands before you in health. 11 This one is the stone being treated with contempt by you the ones building, the one becoming for head of the corner. 12 And there is not [²in ⁴other ³no one ¹deliverance]; for neither [³name ¹is there ²another] under heaven being given to men by which [²must ³be delivered ¹we]. 13 And viewing the open manner of Peter and John, and taking it in that [³men ²illiterate ¹they are] and common people, they marvelled; and they recognized them, that [²with ³Jesus ¹they were]. 14 [³the ¹But ⁴man ²seeing] with them standing, the one having been cured, [²nothing ¹they had] to contradict. 15 And having bid them [²outside ³the ⁴sanhedrin ¹to go forth], they engaged with one another, 16 saying, What shall we do to these men? For indeed a known sign having taken place through them [²to all ³the ones ⁴dwelling ⁵in Jerusalem ¹is apparent]; and we are not able to deny it. 17 But that [²not ⁴unto ⁵more ¹it should ³be spread] among the people, with intimidation we should press upon them, to no longer speak in this name to not one of men. 18 And having called them, they summoned them [³altogether ¹to not ²utter a sound] nor to teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answering to them said, If it is just before God to hearken to you rather than God, you judge! 20 [³are not ⁴able ¹For ²we] what we know and hear to not speak. 21 And the one adding threats released them, [²nothing ¹finding] how they shall punish them, on account of the people. For all glorified God over the thing having taken place. 22 [⁷years old ¹For ⁴was ⁵more than ⁶forty ²the ³man] upon which had taken place this sign of healing. 23 And having been released, they came to their own, and reported as much as [⁷to ⁸them ¹the ²chief priests ³and ⁴the ⁵elders ⁶said]. 24 And having heard, with one accord they lifted a voice to God, and said, O Master, you are God, the one making the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all the things in them; 25 the one [²through ³the mouth ⁴of David ⁵your servant ¹having spoken], Why do [²neigh ¹nations], and peoples meditate upon vain things? 26 [⁵stood ¹The ²kings ³of the ⁴earth], and the rulers gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. 27 For they gathered together in truth against the holy one, your servant Jesus, whom you anointed -- both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations, and peoples of Israel, 28 to do as much as your hand and your counsel predefined to take place. 29 And at present, O Lord, look upon their intimidations, and grant to your servants with every open manner to speak your word! 30 in the thing [²your hand ¹you stretching out] for healing; and signs and miracles to take place through the name [²holy ³servant ¹of your] Jesus. 31 And in their beseeching [⁷was shaken ¹the ²place ³in ⁴which ⁵they were ⁶being gathered together], and they were [²filled ¹all ⁴spirit ³of holy], and they spoke the word of God with confidence. 32 And the multitude of the ones believing was [²heart ³and ⁴soul ¹of one]; and not even one [²anything ³existing ⁴to him ¹said] to be his own; but [²were ⁴to them ¹all things ³in common]. 33 And with great power [³rendered ⁴testimony ¹the ²apostles] of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; [³favor ¹and ²great] was upon all of them. 34 For neither [²lacking ¹anyone] existed among them; for as many as were owners of places or houses existing to them, by selling they brought the value of the things being sold, 35 and they put it by the feet of the apostles; and it was distributed to each in so far as any should [²need ¹have]. 36 And Joses, the one being called Barnabas by the apostles, (which is, being translated, Son of Comfort), a Levite, a Cypriot by race, 37 [³existing ⁴to him ²a field ¹having sold], brought the thing, and put it by the feet of the apostles.
